Pixel Desk Keyboard
A keyboard specifically designed for Android
Pixel 1 World // Pixel Hub // Pixel Desk // Pixel Mouse // Pixel Keyboard // Pixel Book // Pixel VR // Pixel VR Controller
Wireless Charging
Like the Pixel Mouse, the Keyboard does not come with any usb ports or exchangeable batteries. It can only be charged wirelessly on the Pixel Desk stand.
Full Size Arrow Keys
The Pixel Keyboard, as all Pixel World products follows an uncompromized design language. Usual keyboards without number pad include clinched, often half sized arrow keys, which is a real downside for small keyboards.
I developed a keyboard layout that includes full size arrow keys and adds four buttons at the side to serve special Android OS purposes like a Screenshot or a Switch Tabs button.
Iconography
The basic font for they keyboard layout is Adrian Frutiger’s Futura. The icons which are leaned on current Google Pixel keyboard icons are aligned with the font. They Pixel Keyboard is also part of the Pixel world and thus a keyboard for an android device. The additional keys on the right side are android friendly shortcut keys.
Process
The decision to design a keyboard with round keys is obvious, regarding Google’s current design language. Logitech is following this contemporary trend since their rebranding in 2015.
The decision to work on a solution for full sized arrow keys is due to Google’s demand of uncompromized userfriendly designs.
Design Development
The decision for the final design was made considering the Desk Mouse design which has a textile surface with a rather sharp edge and a slight overall curvature.
